Q: Prime Minister, given the increasing demand for government services, and the softening of some aspects of the revenue base, will whoever is in government over the next 10 years have to take some action to increase the taxation base?

A very good question from Michele Grattan and she is quite right. Australia is a low-taxing nation and yet we demand and deserve good and appropriate public services. If we only raised as much revenue as the average of advanced economies we would raised $135bn more a year.
